Who's Hot? Who's Not?

So the Tigs absolutely quit playing after clinching the Wild Card and dropped three to the Royals of all teams. Meanwhile the Dodgers are smoking along winning, I believe, seven straight. Cardinals are playing really poorly. Mets are injured. Padres look pretty good. Yankees are the Yankees and got some bats back just in time to dominate in October. Twins look decent, but a bit shaky here and there. Oakland has a history of blowing it in the postseason.

So...the question is...who you got?

Put a gun to my head and I have no idea how any series in either league shakes out. Although my most likely upset candidates would be the Mets, considering the youth of some of their key players and the absence of Pedro and Francisco, respectively.

My AL favorites in terms or rooting interest are:

1. Detroit
2. Minnesota
3. New York
4. Oakland

NL:

1. Dodgers
2. Cardinals
3. Padres
4 Mets

Hey look how I listed the AL teams by city and the NL teams by mascot. Weird.

I like San Diego to win the World Series

Mets and Twins. Them's my upset specials.

Padres to win is a cavalier pick indeed, DRL.

Because baseball is a funny sport, and because I don't quite believe in the Yankees aura like I once did, and because I was Matt Nokes for Halloween one year, and because I'll be damned if the Tigers' season ends like this, I'm picking Detroit to beat the Yanks in five. I'm also relying on the Tigs' three P's: Pitching, Placido, and Pleyland.

After that, it's a cosmic requirement that Minnesota beat Oakland.

Then, ah hell, Detroit beats Minnesota in a long series.

Over in the NL, I'll be more conventional: Mets over Dodgers, Pads trounce Cards, Mets scoot past Pads.

Finally, Detroit's luck runs out at Shea.

What you got, Deuce?

(I was gonna post a who-you-got thing too--and look at how much action you all have got already!)

One of the toughest years I can remember to handicap. There's money to be made, by the way--the Yankees and Mets are overwhelming favorites for the World Series at most sports books. I don't think either of them will win this. Actually I don't know about the Mets. I was so high on them all year and maybe they'll pull it back together, but their pitching is now shaky, just like the Yankees, and the one truth about the post-season is that shaky pitching just doesn't get it done.

I actually like the NL West teams to advance--hard to believe, given how substandard that division has been for years now. But I can't see the NL winning the World Series.

My pick goes like this: the winner of the Twins-A's series will win the whole thing. I believe they're easily the two best teams going right now.
