90 Percent Polls: '07 Yanks or '08 Tigs?

Get of my (BRAND NEW!) face

The question is simple...which is worse:

21-29 after 50 games for the 2007 Yanks (read previous link for what the fans were saying and here and the NYT here.)

or

0-6 for the wildly-hyped 2008 Tigs?

Vote over to the right and discuss!

The 2007 Yankees had one guy hitting (A-Rod) and one guy pitching (Wang).

The Tigers currently have none and none.

I voted for the Tigers. My reasoning:

The Yankees have a long playoff history. No one in baseball can count out that core of players until they're mathematically eliminated, and that hasn't happened in 12 years. A record of 21-29 is dire, but the Yankees have proven they know how to manage a season.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have been one of the top half dozen or so teams in the MLB for the past two years, but haven't proven anything: They collapsed at the end of 2006 and rebounded, only to play a terrible World Series. Then, last year, they missed the playoffs.

This may be a harsh assessment, but facts are facts. I love Scottie Moon's optimism, but at this point I have to be a Tigers skeptic. I'm not saying they won't turn it around, but recent history isn't encouraging.

(Meanwhile, a cancer-stricken pitcher is blanking the Dodgers and helping his own cause by knocking in a run.)

I think the Yankees were in way, way worse shape. Being 8 games under after 50 games?? That's a steep, steep hole to be in with 112 left. Tigs stink, no doubt. But who here would still lay money they'd be 8 under after 50?

That said, I think it's safe to say the 35-5 start is safely out of reach.

Ahhh I see, we're comparing scenarios, not the quality of the teams. . .

Obvs the Tigers have more time to right the ship. Although they don't get to play the likes of the Orioles and Rays 36 times a year.

This team will win more than 7 in a row this year. They may have a 10 game stretch. After 50 games, they will have more than 25 wins.

I would say if Tigers can manage to be .500 after 50 games they'll be no further out of first then they are now.

And it will still be early as shit.
